Derma rollers have been gaining more popularity over the last few years. Although this is true, there remains a great deal about them that many people have questions about. Here are 5 myths you should know about derma rollers.
Myth 1: “No pain, no gain”…in order for the derm roller to work you must experience pain
This could not be further from the truth. To get results with a derma roller, one of the most important things is using the right needle size. Derma rollers come in different needle sizes. From 0.2mm all the way to 3mm (and higher even). To get results with a derma roller while using at home, you must use a derma roller with at least a needle size of 0.5mm. Anything less than this will be a waste of time.
The other issue is the amount of pressure used when rolling the device. It does not take a great deal of pressure when rolling the derma roller to stimuate the production of collagen. This “no pain, no gain” mantra comes from the idea that if you’re not experiencing any pain then you’re not doing it right. This is wrong and false. Only light pressure is required.
Myth 2: Bleeding means better results
This is also false and incorrect. This sort of follows suit with Myth 1 (“No pain, no gain”). If you’re bleeding, you are probably using too much pressure when rolling the device. Back off a little if this happensand go easy with it. You will get results if you use the derma roller at least 4-5 times a week and you use the correct needle size.
Myth 3: Needle size does not really matter when using the derma roller
In this case…SIZE does matter! As mentioned before, 0.5mm needle length is the bare minimum size to get results. I would also venture to say that you don’t need to use a 3mm needle length either. This is probably overkilland could potentially cause problems…like injury.
The idea is to get some nice skin care results while minimizing injury and harm. Follow the above and you will do just that.
Myth 4: You can get results with just a few treatments
If you see an ad online about a derma roller that will give results with just 3 treatments or “your blemishes and wrinkles will disappear in 1 week after treatment”, do not pay any attention to it. Anything too goodto be true is… (fill in the blanks).
You can get good results with derma rollers but it will take a little effort and some time. You have to be consistent with using it and give it some time to give you results. Depending on the skin care challenge youface (i.e.-dark spots, deep pores, wrinkles, etc.), the time for improvement will vary from user to user. Most people see results within a few short weeks. Others may not see any significant results for longer periods oftime.
Myth 5: You need to use a numbing cream with your derma roller
You do not need a numbing cream with your derma roller. Actually using a numbing cream could be potentially damaging and toxic to your skin. Also if you are applying the right amount of pressure with the device, thenyou won’t need to use a numbing cream in the first place.
